Technical Information about the Reflok VRF pipeline connection system

Technical Details

The Reflok system uses a proven method of producing hermetically sealed metal-to-metal tube connections. Reflok does not use soldering, welding, brazing, or epoxy to create the joint.

This website contains information about Reflok fittings and pipeline components for tube diameters from 6mm (1/4") up to 35mm (1 3/8") and specialty parts for VRF (variable refrigerant flow) refrigeration applications. Special orders can be delivered upon request.

The Connection Process
Reflok takes advantage of the fundamental laws of physics, material properties and basic engineering principles to arrive at an elegant design for joining tubes of similar or dissimilar materials. A Reflok connection consists of two Reflok pipes combined with the corresponding Reflok Connector and is compressed with the Reflok pliers to create the sealed joint. No heat required. This is a quick and simple method of joining tubes that eliminates the fire hazards of brazing and proper torque concerns of threaded connections.

The special inner profile of the Reflok Connector causes the diameter of the body to be reduced until it is in intimate contact with the outer surface of the Reflok pipe that is being connected. This grip creates a metal-to-metal hermetic seal with a slight reduction of the pipes. This reduction causes no detectable drop in pressure or flow rate.

The radial forces of the tube and the connecting body resisting reduction are directed to the outside. And the radial forces of the Reflok Connectors resisting expansion are directed to the inside causing a state of equilibrium known as elastic strain pre-load. This equilibrium is maintained for the life of the Reflok Connection.

In order to produce a hermetically sealed metal/metal connection, the tube ends must be hermetically clean. Paint, grit, oil and grease must be removed using a suitable medium such as emery or a 3M Scotch-Brite pad. Clean the tube ends in a rotary direction to prevent the creation of lengthwise groves.

The Pressure Area
Reflok Connectors are designed for a maximum operating pressure of Pn = 50 bar (750psi and a testing pressure of Pp = 4 x Pn = 200 bar (3000 psi). Reflok Connectors can be used in a temperature range between -50ºC and +150ºC (-58ºF and +302ºF).

The expansion or contraction of the material caused by a change in temperature has no impact on the elasticity of the tube connection. Burst test have shown that the Reflok Pipe Connector is stronger than the burst point of the tube.
